Agenda: Inter-American Forum “Safe Schools in the Digital Age”

As part of the Inter-American Forum “Safe Schools in the Digital Age,” an initiative of the Educational Portal of the Americas aimed at understanding patterns, risks, and behaviors that may compromise the safety of the educational community in school environments, a series of open workshops will be held throughout August, September, and October. Prior registration will be required.
The topics addressed in each seminar were identified through a survey conducted in May among different members of educational communities, with the aim of identifying priority areas for this initiative. A total of 595 responses were received.
Some of these topics are explored in greater depth in our online training courses.
➜Seminar: Digital Coexistence Among Students
During this workshop, participants will explore strategies to foster safe, inclusive, and respectful digital environments within educational communities. The session will facilitate the exchange of experiences and good practices aimed at strengthening digital citizenship and preventing situations of online violence.
Expert: Katya Vera, Cybersecurity Officer in the OAS Cybersecurity Section. She currently leads the Accessibility and Resilience area within the Section. Her team is responsible for anticipating technological developments, assessing emerging cybersecurity risks, and developing practical guidelines to support and strengthen technology adoption processes throughout the Americas.

➜Seminar: Online Risk fo Students
This workshop will examine the main risks faced by children and adolescents in digital environments, as well as the responses that can be promoted within the education sector. It will also provide an opportunity to share prevention and protection tools tailored to the diverse contexts across the Americas.
Expert: Jane Piazer, Project Coordinator at the OAS Department of Public Security (DPS), with experience in the design, implementation, and monitoring of projects focused on citizen security, including initiatives addressing human trafficking and violence prevention across the Americas.

➜Seminar: Online Grooming: How Schools Can Respond;
This workshop will examine the role of educational institutions in the prevention, early identification, and appropriate response to online grooming. The discussion will contribute to strengthening institutional capacities, procedures, and protocols to ensure effective measures for protecting students from this form of online violence.
