First Call for Crime Analysis Experiences in the Americas | Announcement of Results

Within the framework of the First Regional Call for Crime Analysis Experiences, the International Jury reviewed and evaluated 11 shortlisted initiatives.

The International Jury was comprised of:

  • Hector Amaya, President, Latin American Development Subcommittee, International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA)
  • Maria Guadalupe Aguirre, Chief Executive, CAF-Development Bank of Latin America Latina
  • Hung-en Sung, Associate Professor and Director of International Research Partnerships at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice

 

Based on the score awarded, within the category of initiatives aiming at improving the execution of programs or strategies for crime and violence prevention/control, the following four were selected:

  • In First Place: Initiative 9 > Production of Information for the Interagency Management of Inter-municipal Security Issues in the Mendoza Metropolitan Area, Mendoza Province, Argentina
  • In Second Place: Initiative 6 > Victimization and Insecurity Perception Survey in the Metropolitan District of Quito (DMQ) 2020 – Virtual Mode, Quito, Ecuador
  • In Third Place: Initiative 10 > Analysis of the Spatial and Temporal Patterns in the Roads Phenomenon, Corregidora Municipality, Queretaro, Mexico
  • In Fourth Place: Initiative 4 > Shooting Detector, Electroacoustic and Signal Processing Lab, Chile

These four initiatives received the highest score among the 11 initiatives analyzed by the Members of the International Jury.

Additionally, Initiative 10 received a mention for Pertinence/Relevance.

With respect to the category of initiatives aiming at improving records/data quality, sources of information and data bases that support Crime Analysis, the following two were selected based on the score awarded:

  • In First Place: Initiative 8 > National Data System, Statistics and Information on Violence against Women, El Salvador
  • In Second Place: Initiative 11 > Information Ecosystem, Attorney General’s Office, Mexico

 

Additionally, Initiative 8 received a mention for Pertinence/Relevance.

At the same time, Initiative 7 on Construction of Neighborhood Typologies according to Level of Violence, presented by the Local Management Observatory of Peñalolen, Peñalolen Municipality, Chile, received a mention for Originality/Creativity.

The six selected initiatives based on the highest score awarded by the International Jury will be presented at the International Conference on Crime Analysis that will take place, virtually, on Monday April 11 and Tuesday April 12, 2022. [Link to register: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83624773725]

Additionally, the 11 Initiatives that participated in the first Regional Call for Crime Analysis Experiences 2021-2022 will be uploaded to the Criminal Analysis Map and, in turn, the six selected by the International Jury will be published.

The First Regional Call for Crime Analysis Experiences is an initiative organized by the Department of Public Security of the Organization of American States (OAS), the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), and the IACA Chile Analysts Network, within the framework of the Interamerican Community of Crime Analysts.
